Apr 07, Colombo: Considering the growth of the cruise tourism, an important niche segment, Sri Lanka Tourism has participated in this year’s Seatrade Cruise Global 2016, together with three Sri Lankan Cruise Operating Companies.
Seatrade Cruise Global 2016, the leading annual global business-to-business event for the cruise industry, was held at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Broward County Convention Center from 14-17 March 2016.
Bringing together buyers and suppliers for a four-day conference and three-day exhibition, the gathering draws more than 11,000 registered attendees, over 800 exhibiting companies from 93 countries and more than 300 international journalists to become cruise industry’s epicenter of ideas, products and services.
The cruise industry is the fastest growing category in the leisure travel market. Since 1980, the industry has experienced an average annual passenger growth rate of approximately 7.2% per annum.
The most important characteristics of the Cruise Tourism segment is that they are a “Luxury” form of “Mass Tourism” with high spending capacity and cruisers are not travelers not mere tourists and well-travelled all over the world and they like to explore around the world to get more experience.
