Sri Lanka would be targeting four million tourist arrivals by 2020, said Chairman Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, Paddy Vithana.
Speaking to Daily News business at the Future of Tourism Summit he said that Sri Lanka may be not ready by that time to meet them. “We must understand our limitations in him human resources and rooms sector.”
He said that in addition to the anticipated 4 million visitors there would be a high number of Sri Lankan traveller too who would be travelling internally. “Hence we would need more rooms and additional infrastructure, specially at cultural sites to accommodate both local and foreign tourists.”
He also said that travel trends are fast changing and today over 60% of books on Sri Lanka are online. “This summit would also help us to study future pattern of the industry and mop out strategies accordingly.”
