The Department of National Botanical Gardens says that steps are being taken to establish a new botanical garden for the protection of coastal plants and sea plants. Director General, Dr. Harischandra Peramunugama stated that the botanical garden would be opened around the Negombo lagoon.
Tourists in Sri Lanka would have the opportunity to see several varieties of plants that grow along the coastal line in the country. He added that sea plants would be grown in tanks as well.
He went on to note that this establishment would attract tourists in the Katunayake area which is the proposed tourism region.
