Sancharaka Udawa 2015 attracts tourism sector

Record number of over 200 stalls including an exhibition from Slovakia displayed their products and services at the fifth edition of ‘Sancharaka Udawa 2015,’ Sri Lanka’s only domestic tourism fair, concluded at BMICH yesterday.The event organised by the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) together with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) was inaugurated by Tourism and Sports Minister Navin Dissanayake on Friday. CDC Events and Travels was the Professional Exhibition Organiser.

The exhibition,a platform to showcase Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurs working in the tourism industry and has helped numerous small-medium ventures to establish themselves within Sri Lanka’s tourism industry and the popularity of the event is touted as a testimony to its success in achieving its objectives.

He said that the government too is taking the industry seriously and this was the reason why a dedicated minister was appointed. “I have appointed respected and skilled heads to look after the operations of Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) and the Promotion Bureau, Hotel

School. They are also working together to promote the industry and we have also got the private sector actively involved in the decision making process”.

He said they were also concentrating on MICE tourism too. The event was an ideal opportunity for those interested in the tourism industry, even students to get a first hand understanding on what is available in the tourism industry.
