UK grows by 5.2% in Q1; SL Tourism launches Birmingham marketing blitz

While tourist arrivals from the UK surged by 5.2% in the first quarter of 2015, rising to 15,212 visitors, the Sri Lanka Tourism Bureau embarked on a unique promotion by partnering with Rotary United Kingdom and Ireland to host the first Sri Lanka worldwide President K. Ravindran at the Hilton Metropole Hotel (NEC) in Birmingham.

The President of Rotary International in the UK and Ireland Peter Davey and the current President of Rotary Peter King were also present at the event.

The rotary is the only service organisation that has a permanent seat at the UN, which is why Sri Lanka Tourism struck a partnership with Rotary where it could make the country a top destination given that for the first time a Sri Lankan had been voted to lead this powerful global organisation, the Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Rohantha Athukorala said.

Sri Lanka Tourism was given a very unique opportunity at Hilton Metropole Hotel in the UK to showcase its cultural diversity by presenting two cultural dance items at the Gala Dinner at Graphics depicting the diversity of the destination while highlighting the culture, festivals, wildlife and scenic tea plantations.

Rotary International Director in the UK, Peter L. Offer commented that “the drummers and dancers were well-received and the surprise on the walk in went so well.  Thank you on behalf of the VIPs and the Rotary International UK and Ireland for the lovely gifts offered by Sri Lanka Tourism to the presidents and the directors who were at the convention.”
