The latest data, from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, indicates that tourist arrivals into the country increased by 16 percent in comparison to the same period last year.
According to the board, 165,541 tourists had arrived in the country as compared to the amount last year which was 141, 878. This shows an increase of 23,663 including many tourists from South Asia and East regions.
China records an increase by 165% while England and Western Europe has increased by 15.5%. However on a negative note tourists from Russia and Eastern Europe had dropped by 24.4%.
Overall, during the last two months 321,787 tourists arrived in Sri Lanka resulting in an 11.6 percent increase compared to last year.
